Building your home's central nervous system:
Today's home is larger, more efficient, smarter, and accommodates our lifestyles better. The keys to many of these improvements are the electronics that power our home's systems. Lighting, electrical, air conditioning, security, entertainment, computing and more can now be tied together to create a cohesive and coordinated whole house system.
But none of it is possible without the correct wire. Hidden behind your sheetrock, miles of high tech copper and coax carry important signals to your systems. As a homebuyer, you should insist on these minimums:
- - Separate color coded Cat5e for phone, data and network (LAN)
- - RG6Quad coax for all video signals
- - More than one jack for the above in each room
- - Data line paired with all coax (to allow satellite, TiVo etc.)
- - A full-featured central wiring closet with a FutureSmart enclosure that allows networking, video routing, phone systems etc.
- - Audio and control wiring that allows you to control not only the volume but also the source CD,radio, etc.) of your music from a keypad in each room.
